On May 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that in order to reduce the risk of developing severe COVID-19 among individuals aged 65 and older at risk of severe illness following infection, effective from May 18, individuals in this group can be prescribed antiviral medication Paxlovid after they test positive with COVID-19 rapid antigen tests, have their results confirmed by doctors, reach a consensus with doctors, and doctors report them as confirmed cases and conduct an evaluation on the use of Paxlovid.
