COVID-19 vaccination rollout continues; expired vaccines to be disposed of in accordance with procedure

font:

The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported that COVID-19 community transmission in Taiwan has stabilized and the vaccination rate has slowed down. It is estimated that about 340,000 doses of Moderna and 70,000 doses of BNT, which had been thawed and distributed to local health departments, will expire this week, and about 312,000 doses of the AZ vaccine will expire at the end of March. The CECC has issued a letter to request local health departments to properly manage and control the allocation of vaccines and to handle unused vaccines reaching their expiration date in accordance with the instructions on handling expired vaccines. Contracted healthcare facilities are requested to move vaccines reaching their expiration date from cold storage and give them to local health departments for further handling and destruction along with a disposal statement. Vaccines reaching their expiration date will be disposed of, instead of being given to the public. Members of the public can feel at ease when getting vaccinated.
