Taiwan established a Level 3 “Central Epidemic Command Center for Severe Pneumonia with Novel Pathogens”
1. As the pneumonia epidemic caused by the COVID-19 virus in China was still raging, and confirmed cases from Wuhan appeared in the adjacent countries, it can be determined that there was community spread and the epidemic was getting worse. On January 20, Taiwan CDC announced the establishment of the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) and its Director General Chou Jih-haw served as the commander who was responsible for planning and integrating the resources and workforce from various Ministries.
2. On the day when the CECC was established, an expert consolations meeting was convened with the following suggestions from experts:
(1) For the cases to be reported, it was suggested that those who had traveled to China and had pneumonia be reported for better monitoring and early identification of suspected cases.
(2) The "Travel Epidemic Alert・Active Health Reporting" health education leaflet was distributed on all of the arriving flights from China, Hong Kong, and Macau. Taiwan CDC also confirmed the inspection capabilities and assisted healthcare institutions in making an inventory of isolation rooms.
